'The family was well off, nearly gentry, but one of our line married 'beneath himself' to a serving girl, and they ran off together.' [AG Fitt, 1990]
Every family must have a story like this, but this could refer to Charles whose father was a large landowner in Hursley and whose family married by licence, left MIs, wills, ventured capital etc.

'One ancestor was the strongest man in Hampshire, a miller. He could lift, one in each hand, two full bags of flour.' [AG Fitt, 1990] Could be Frederick Fitt or his brother Edward.

'There was also a prize fighter. A field in Petersfield was named after him, now built over, Fitt's field.' [Peter Garrett, 1980]
I have been in touch with The Petersfield Historical Association who have catalogued all the field names in the area but no Fitt's field. Again Frederick or Edward could be likely candidates.

'Also one was involved in a fight in Alton and killed a man.' [John Owen Smith 1994].
John Owen Smith is the author of 'One Monday in November .....', the story of the Selborne and Headley riots of 1830 and mentions this incident in a private letter referring to Edward Fitt.
