| SOCKS Materials required: A pair of 2mm (UK size 14) knitting needles. Scraps of 2 ply yarn. Instructions: Abbreviations: st = stitch; sts = stitches; k = knit; p = purl; ss = stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl); inc = increase by working twice into next stitch; turn = turn knitting round and work back along sts just knitted The socks will fit a doll of 5 1/2 to 6 inches tall. Cast on 5 sts. Next row: Inc in every st (10 sts) Starting with a p row, ss 5 rows. To turn heel: Next row: k2, turn Next row: p2 Next row: k3, turn Next row: p3 Next row: k4, turn Next row: p4 Next row: k to end Next row: p2, turn Next row: k2 Next row: p3, turn Next row: k3 Next row: p4, turn Next row: k4 Short socks: Starting with a p row, ss 5 rows. Cast off loosely. Long socks: Starting with a p row ss 10 rows. Next row: p, inc one st at each end of row (12 sts) K three rows, p one row. Cast off loosely. To make up: With wrong sides together, fold in half and seam along back and under foot, using small sts on the right side. Gather toe and fasten off. Press lightly.
